BOXES BRING JOY AT SPORTS CLUB FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY
Michael has been in a wheel chair for 18 years, ever since he suffered a spinal injury. Eight years ago – at the age of 60 – he joined a sports club for people with disability in the city of Cluj, Romania. There he enjoys playing table tennis and has even won prizes in tournaments.
Reka Mathe contacted the club in December to provide gift boxes from Blythswood’s 2013 Shoe Box Appeal. “Michael appreciated the kind gesture of the person who prepared a Christmas gift for a complete stranger,” she says. “He loved the warm scarf which he found in his box.
“But what impressed him most of all was the joy of his friends at the club. Many were born with disability, abandoned at birth and brought up in various orphanages. For them these gifts really are a great blessing.”
