Wed 1st

 

Pray about the situation in Pakistan following the flooding. Twenty million have been affected : a quarter of the country has been flooded, 1600 deaths :  over 8 million acres of cotton, sugar cane and wheat crops have been ruined. Pray too for those who suffered as a result of flooding in Romania, Albania, Hungary, Moldova, India and China, during this year.

The Senior Management Team meets today.   Pray for a constructive meeting and for guidance and wisdom in decision making.

Fri. 3rd

 

 Blythswood Northern Ireland team asks us to: "Pray that we would receive ‘fillers' and shoeboxes in early September to be able to send shoeboxes to Pakistan before Christmas. Pray that our new shop in Lisburn would open on schedule this month and prove to be a real success in that city."

Sat. 4th

 

Pray for Pastor Dragisa Armus, "Love your Neighbour", Serbia, with a busy programme in Kent during 6th - 16th September - recording his testimony : deputations and preaching at Churches.  His busy schedule also includes speaking at a Men's Breakfast, the Blythswood Care Awareness Conference and meeting with the Serbian community in London. 

From Jodi Unsworth: Tomorrow, a work team (6 men) from Liverpool will travel to Dej, Romania - to complete the build of the children's holiday camp for Vasile and Sorina at Elpis Foundation.  Pray for their safety in travel and whilst they complete the building work.

Mon. 6th

 

The new newspaper has just been mailed which focuses on the Shoebox Appeal.  Please pray for a good response to this and also to the letters sent to churches, schools and organisations about the appeal.  Last year 128,000 filled boxes were collected.

Tues. 7th

 

 

India: Construction work has started on the Sathyam Differently Abled Centre in Kerala, India.  Give thanks for the money raised (over 30K), and for the blessing the new centre will be to so many children, teenagers and adults.  Please pray for the balance of the funding required to complete the second phase (40K).

Wed. 8th

 

Pray that the Shoebox Literature being printed - ‘Miriam' picture story book for small children; ‘How Can God Accept Me' booklet for teenagers; and calendars for adults - will be ready in good time for distribution to all the sorting stations throughout the country.

Thurs. 9th

 

Elpis Foundation:  Give thanks for the time shared with Vasile Pop and family at Deephaven last month, and for the donation of  £1725 from Deephaven staff towards their work.

Fri. 10th

 

Inverness Support Group's Annual Silent Auction is being held tonight at Dalneigh Church.  Give thanks for the Group's ongoing support and pray for a successful evening.

Sat. 11th

 

Pray that all the plans for three new recycling projects will progress well.  Give thanks for Blythswood's continued growth in reuse and recycling of people's donated goods.

Mon. 13th

 

We hope that Christian Niyonkuru of World Outreach Initiatives, Bujumburu, Burundi, will be able to visit Deephaven this week.   Pray for this proposed visit.

Tues. 14th

 

A Blythswood team of  7 visits Kosova and Albania to work with Victory Church, Gjakova - This includes the launch of Let's Study Mark and Acts in Albanian and a new church centre in Bajram Curri, Northern Albania.  Ray and others will also be involved later with support work for the visually impaired.  Audio tapes and CD's will be recorded and distributed, as well as CD players.  Eye tests and spectacles are provided.

Wed. 15th

 

Pray for the Medway Team who will be leading a special assembly at 2 pm today at St Mary of Charity Primary School in Faversham, Kent.  The school will be twinning with a school in Serbia and will be launching the Shoebox Appeal for the first time.  In attendance will be the Bishop of Dover, the local councillor for education, Pastor Dragisa and members of the Press.

Central Belt Shoebox Preparations:  Pray that the fundraisers will travel safely and be able to maintain their enthusiasm during the busy Autumn weeks with deputation meetings and organizing the collections and deliveries.

Thurs. 16th

 

Pray for the safe delivery of the aid truck which will leave Medway tomorrow for the Victory Church in Gjakova,  Kosova.

Fri. 17th

The Blythswood Trustees' Meeting will be held today.  Pray for the Trustees and Management  as they deal with the subjects for discussion.

Sat. 18th

 

Glasgow Facility: Pray that the fire engines we had hoped would be offered, will in fact be supplied. Pray for a good response to the invitations going out for the lunch on 30th September at Houstoun House Hotel, Uphall, to raise funds for the Fire Engine Project. Give thanks for the dedication of Gary Bennett and his team of volunteers, and pray that those attending the lunch will be moved to respond generously.

Mon. 20th

 

Pray that the preparation work in getting everything ready for the Shoebox sorting being run from Medway, Bristol, Liverpool N. Ireland, Central Belt and the Highlands will go well. During September the Fundraising Team will be out at lots of shoebox deputations.  Pray for all of those out speaking and for safe travel.  Please pray for a positive response from the schools and churches and for many children and adults to feel encouraged to fill boxes.

Tues. 21st

 

Today Phil and June will promote Global Hand and the Shoebox Appeal at the University of Kent, Chatham.  Pray for them as they seek to engage with the students and tutors.     Tonight, Pete Tottman will speak at the Inner Wheel Club of Tunbridge Wells - first visit to this group.

Tomorrow at 9am June leads an assembly at St Peter's Infant School, Rochester to promote the Shoebox Appeal : and in the afternoon speaks at Twydall Evangelical Church, Gillingham to update the group on current projects and to promote the Shoebox Appeal.

Wed. 22nd

The Aid Request Group hopes to meet tomorrow.  Pray for them as they make vital decisions.

Thurs. 23rd

 

The new Appeal Letter is being mailed today with a focus on our support of flooding relief in Pakistan.  Please pray for a good response to this and the specific appeal for literature for Pakistan.  Last year over £26,000 was raised through this appeal.

 

Fri. 24th

 

 

Blythswood Shops:  Pray for the Lord's provision for our shops in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK - and in Romania, both in goods donated and customers buying.   Remember all Shop Managers, Assistants and Volunteers in their vital work for providing funds for Blythswood's work.

Sat. 25th

 

 

Ukraine:   Simeon and Asia Ewing, Children's Ministry Ukraine, have appealed for helpers to join them over the next five months in the building work of their home for orphans and other children in need of shelter.  Pray that they will have both a good and early response to their request.

Sun. 26th

Mon. 27th

 

Central Belt: Pray for new contacts with churches and schools through the Shoebox Appeal. Give thanks for those who have supported faithfully for many years and are doing it all over again this year.  Pray for Norman Weibye who will be co-ordinating the Edinburgh Sorting Group this year, that he will recruit the necessary volunteers and have a good response from local churches.

Tues. 28 th

Pray for the community projects we work with in Lewis and Uist in the Outer Hebrides.  Pray for Flora Maclean of Uist Council for Voluntary Organisations who has been unwell.

Wed. 29 .th

Pray for Charlie Nicolson, Stornoway, as he recovers from a heart attack earlier in the Summer.

Thurs. 30th

 

Glasgow:  Today the lunch is being held to raise funds for the Fire Engine and Ambulance Project at the Houston House Hotel, Uphall.  Pray for everyone attending and that the funds raised will help towards this project.

 

OCTOBER 2010

 

 

Fri. 1st

 

Literature: Blythswood's earliest vision to encourage people through the publication and distribution of scripturally sound Christian literature remains.  Give thanks for the opportunities Blythswood Care is given to send Christian literature on a regular basis to Africa, and for the contacts Ann Urquhart makes through this work.

Sat. 2nd

 

Pray for the Lord's enabling for Blythswood to handle the increasing number of requests for help from many areas throughout the world.

Sun. 3rd

 

"Let them that suffer, according to the will of God, commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing - as unto a faithful Creator."   1 Peter 4.19

Mon. 4th

 

Pray for our Christian partners living where there is persecution and without religious freedom.  They live out their lives surrendering to God's will, and commit their souls' keeping to Him, as they serve Him and witness for Him.

Tues. 5th

Pray for Pastor Cornel Iova, Oradea, and his mission work in Oradea and other areas of Romania.

Wed. 6th

 

Kate Morrison at Bristol asks for prayer as they carry out deputations in October.  Pray for a good response to the mail-out with the Welsh Shoebox Leaflet aimed to encourage new schools to get involved.   Pray for a successful shoebox season.

Pray for Jodi Unsworth as she continues to build Blythswood support in North England and North Wales.  Pray particularly for the shoebox appeal, that many schools and churches in her area will support Blythswood in this appeal.  Pray for many volunteers during the sorting days.

Thurs. 7th

 

Highland Food Bank:   Give thanks for the food donations which come in regularly.   Pray that, as demand has increased, the donations of food will match the need.

Fri. 8th

 

June at Medway will be speaking today at Chatham Bowling Club - another new contact - where she will give an overview of Blythswood Care and promoting the Shoebox Appeal.

Sat. 9th

 

Give thanks for the new administrative members of staff who have recently joined the team at Deephaven and for new sorting and warehousing workers :   Pray for good health during their pregnancies for Siobhan Macleod and Kerry Mackie while they take maternity leave.

Mon. 11th

 

From Blythswood Northern Ireland:  Give thanks for the success of the Bolintin Team who completed and exceeded their refurbishment efforts for the Women's Refuge.  Pray that an appropriate full-time social worker will be found to adequately cater for the needs of the girls there. Pray that the witness and care of the team will have pointed those without Christ to his everlasting care. Pray for those non-believers who were part of the team.  Give thanks for their interest and commitment to practically help the poor as well as listen expectantly to the Word of God.

Tues. 12th

 

Mission Possible, Albania: The owner of the Hope Centre in Bathore wants it back.  Pray that Mission Possible could have their own Christian Centre.  The programme of activies continues.  Pray for the team - the ministry entrusted to them and that they will continue to serve God with all their hearts.  Pray for the new magazine editor, Ornela - for a creative spirit.

Wed. 13th

 

God Loves Albania:  Pray for guidance for Gesina and her proposals for the disability village.

Thurs. 14th

 

Daniel Centre, Cluj:   Pray for the ability for everyone to adapt to the changes and for the development of the after-care programme.

Fri. 15th

 

Children's Camps:  Pray that the seed sown at the Children's Summer Camps in the UK and in Eastern Europe will produce a spiritual harvest of young believers.

Sat. 16th

 

Please pray for good health and strength for Kenny and Richard. They minister and give out tracts in the streets of Inverness.  Pray that the ministry would result in the salvation of souls and that God would be glorified.

Sun. 17th

"The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends!" Job 42.10

Mon. 18th

 

Pray for Blythswood as we seek to meet an increasing number of requests from more areas of the world.  Give thanks for so many occasions of answered prayer which enabled Blythswood to help in unexpected ways as a result of the generosity of supporters.

Tues. 19th

 

 Moldova:  Continue to pray for the growth, development and support of the Evangelical College in Chisinau- and for the students now into their new term.

Wed. 20th

 

Calin and Emelia,  Project Joseph:  Pray for wisdom and patience for all concerned in this project, as we progress the developing of care for the elderly in Romania.

Thurs. 21st

 

The Gift Catalogue appeal is being mailed today.  Please pray for a healthy response to this.  Over £40,000 was raised last year enabling many projects to receive support from the various items available.

Fri. 22nd

 

Pray for David and Joy Spriggs' work in Cluj:  Pray for their support work with the boys they care for, including the Bible College students and the boys at the Daniel Centre.

Sat. 23rd

 

Adrian Popa: The Talita Kum work with the children continues in Jimbolia. Pray for Talita Kum II future developments - that they will progress smoothly.

Mon. 25th

 

 

 

Alexander Macleod, United Brethren Mission, India:  The 4th new academic year has started with 25 students from Indian states and other countries.  Pray that these students, in time, will graduate and go out directly into mission work.   Pray for the Spring Home, now full with 10 children lovingly cared for.   Pray for the future of the language school (1 teacher : 1 pupil at the moment).

Tues. 26th

 

Good News Foundation, Orgovány:  Pray for the Ficsor family - Charles (Director) Ágnes, Donát and Barbara.  Their mission reaches individuals in the local neighbourhood and also serves over 100 churches across Historical Hungary.

Wed. 27th

 

Dayspring House, Andhra Pradesh, India:  Continue to pray for Pastor Samuel Babu and the young people at Dayspring House who benefit from improved health as a result being able to receive regular meals and have the opportunity to attend school every day.

Thurs. 28th

 

Pray for the work of Bonus Pastor Foundation, committed to helping people with addictions through therapy programmes, counselling and after-care.  Pray too for the children (with addicted relatives) given an opportunity to attend the holiday camps and learn to avoid the life patterns of their family members.

Fri. 29th

 

Loads: Give thanks that it has been possible to send two containers of medical aid to Haiti -  and for the funds raised.  Give thanks that it has also been possible to send food, plastic sheeting and water purification tablets to Pakistan.

Sat. 30th

 

There is always a need for volunteers in all areas of Blythswood's work.  Pray for more volunteers to help in administration, driving, sorting, warehousing, and in our charity and Christian Book Shops.

Sun. 31st
