Projects
An introduction to some Blythswood Care Projects and some projects run by organisations we work with.
Around the world there are millions of children who are orphaned or even abandoned by their families.
Young people leaving orphanages often end up living on the streets. The Daniel Centre, near Cluj-Napoca, offers a home to eight boys and helps fill many of the social, emotional and educational gaps in their lives.
When the schools close at midday, many young children have to fend for themselves. Talita Kum provides a six-hour programme, five days a week for 40 children from some of the poorest households in Jimbolia.
Following the recent eartquake in Haiti we plan to send a container of aid to assist with the disaster relief. The container will be filled with medical equipment, filled buckets of love and other much needed supplies. These will be distributed in Haiti through partners working in the country.
Nearly 1 billion people live in abject poverty in the slums of Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. In these areas many families struggle to survive in the harsh conditions. Yet it only takes something very small to brighten their day; a piece of string, or a yard of duct tape to patch up a leaky roof...
Food Bank Coordinator Lorna Dempster reports that the Highland Food Bank helped 2638 clients during 2008 – nearly a thousand people more than in 2007. The aim of the Food Bank is to provide free emergency food for a three day period.
Elpis Foundation provides education, social care and Christian mission in the town of Dej and surrounding villages.
